Insights are necessary to grow, heal, and learn more about ourselves and how we view the world. Tara Parker-Pope’s self-compassion quiz titled “How Self-Compassionate Are You?” featured in the New York Times in 2019 is a helpful and insightful tool. Self-compassion impacts our behaviors, actions, and outlook.
Utilizing an adapted version of the Self-Compassion Scale from “The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook: A Proven Way to Accept Yourself, Find Inner Strength, and Thrive,” by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer, the quiz features thought-provoking statements like “When something painful happens, I try to take a balanced view of the situation” and “I try to see my failings as part of the human condition.” The answer options include almost never, once in a while, sometimes, often, almost always.
The results also offer helpful “next step” suggestions and guidance emphasizing practical ways to improve or maintain self-compassion.
This test might yield interesting results for those seeking a kinder look inward. In today’s troubling times, a little self-compassion can go a long way.
